I am Amy Urban DMD, CEO and founder of the Harmony Appliance.  I am also a dentist trained in dental sleep medicine.  After being diagnosed with sleep apnea, I started using an APAP machine.  When I slept, the sleep was amazing.  Unfortunately, I would be woken, multiple times a night, with my mouth being blown open by the pressurized air.  My mouth was so dry, it was painful.  I soon discovered many patients in my practice, using PAP machines, were having the exact same problems and they were desperate for a solution to keep their mouths closed. This is why I created the Harmony Appliance.

Over 70% of PAP users are not getting restorative sleep due to non-compliance.  PAP therapy is considered the gold standard treatment for sleep apnea however patients stop using it due to side effects.  Both discovery and research show that 70% PAP users experience leaks and 50% dry mouth.

The only current offerings for keeping the mouth closed are:

-Chin straps, which are external straps that wrap around the head.

-Mouth tape attempts to seal the lips but the mouth can still move and open.
